Most Avior Principals have come to the aid to support their Seafarers that have been affected by the typhoon Yolanda. Be it in kind or financial the support has been heartwarming.
With many Avior Seafarers living in the affected area many it was to be expected that the impact on the lives of our Seafarers and their families would be substantial if not dramatic. Luckily no casualties were reported among our Seafarers but sadly three cases were reported with multiple casulaties amongst family members from Tacloban, Ormoc and Guiuan.
About a hundred Avior Seafarers lost their house and many more suffered serious damage to propety and their livelyhood. Some families have been evacuated.
Support has been forthcoming from many quaters. Seafarers on board of all natinalities have send donations, Avior staff has donated in kind and Principals have come forward to assist their Seafarers in whatever way they can.
During the visit of Seatrade Managing Director Mark Jansen en Crew Manager Kor Wormmeester On Dec 4-5, a checque of USD 80,000/- was handed over for support to affected Seafarers and their families.
A similar gesture was made during the visit of Safety Crew Manager Dimitirios Grigorakos and Alassia Crew Manager Katerina Xenou on Dec 18.
Those donations will go a long way in helping out those affected and showing them they are not alone in this. Also organizations like the Philippine Red Cross, ABS-CBN "Sagip Kapamilya" and local volunteer initiatives have benfited from the donations.
A heartfelt "Thank you" to all who donated on behalf of our Seafarers and their families.
