Aviormarine Principals Seatrade and Triton signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA) covering the on board training of catering staff. Under the program selected MIHCA graduates will be offered positions as messman. During their time on board they will understudy the Chief Cook positiion while at the same time finish a correspondence course to enhance their knowledge of on board catering practices. If at the end both the course and the final evaluation are satsifactory the Messman will be promoted to Cook on his next assignements. So far all candidates under the trial version of the program have succeeded to gain promotion.
According the Aviormarine's Training and Recruitment Manager Capt Pacaon "it is the good practical cooking training and hygiene that gives MIHCA graduates a good starting position to do well in this career path. With MLC-2006 putting more emphasis on good cooking and hygiene standards we felt that this field required some additional attention.
In addition to this we organize Russian Cooking courses for our Cooks assigned to ships with Russian Officers".
