On December-7 the Christmas Season kicked off with the Seatrade/Triton Christmas party at Solaire Casino and Resort. The party was attended by Officers, wives, long term awardees and staff from Seatrade agents Avior and Career. Despite the approaching typhoon Ruby the event room was packed to capacity.
The guest were welcomed by the tunes of the Kaibigan Minstrels advocating the cause of children off underpriviliged families in Manila poorer areas.
Unfortunately Seatrade MD Mark Jansen and Crewing Manager Kor Wormmeester got delayed due to weather disruptions on their way to Manila and could not make it to the party in time. The annual Seatrade speech was therefore read by Ms Naomi Mes-Yamaki, wife of Avior Director Joost Mes. Ms Mes-Yamaki briefed guest on the Seatrades business result and the newbuilding program.
Avior Director Joost Mes reminded guests that one year ago Avior was still in the process of trying to locate some missing family members in the aftermath of supertyphoon Hayian/Yolanda. Eventually all Seafarers were accounted for but unfortunately several families experienced casualties. Close to a hundred families lost their house and many others suffered damage to property and livelyhood. The scale overwhelmed everyone but Seatrade was quick to start up a fundraising effort among its Seafarers, Offices worldwide, and Clients. Through this effort a relief fund of about eighty thousand Euro was formed and many affected Seafarers as well as organizations active in relief effort have benefited from this fund.
In the spirit of helping others guests donated generously to the Kaibigan Ermita Outreach Foundation Inc and with Seatarde doubling the amount one hundred thousand peso was raised for this worhtwhile cause.
Long-term Service awards were granted to those with 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of service. Career founder Mr Kurt Oggel commended Capt Bernardo Felicisimo on his twenty years of service for Career-Seatrade and highlighted the many achievements and dedication of Capt Bernardo.
The party lasted until midnight and most coming from far stayed overnight at Solaire.
The next party scheduled this season will be the Christmas party for Safety/Alassia on Dec-19.
MERRY CHRISTMAS / HAPPY NEW YEAR
